MHCC August Drive
08/18/2007
Hello Cobra Cruise Fans
Here are plans for our August Drive
Mt. Evans
Hosting the August drive are Tom and Kath Stimmler. Yeah, we're getting pretty sick of them too, but they just won't let up. So we're stuck. They are planning a drive for Saturday, August 18. The plan is to meet in Golden, behind Foss Drug, gassed up and ready to go at 9:45 for a 10:00 a.m. departure. From there we'll wind our way up Lookout Mountain on Lariat Trail/Hwy 40 and jump on I-70. Only a few miles of Interstate to Idaho Springs, then south on Hwy 103 for 14 beautiful miles past Echo Lake to the Echo Lake Lodge. There we will have an early lunch and the ladies can wander through the gift shop if they would like, while we're waiting for lunch. We're just ordering off of the menu, but we have reservations. After lunch, we'll get on the Mt. Evans Hwy. The cost to drive the highway is $10 per vehicle. Mt. Evans is above 14,000 feet, well above timberline. The word of the day is LAYER.........layer, layer, layer. It may be hot in Denver, but it will not be hot at the top of Mt. Evans. When we get to the top, we can get out of the cars and romp and play. There's "stuff" up there. Coming back down we'll want a potty stop at the lodge. Then back on Hwy 103 to Bergen Park, and I-70. We will come out at the El Rancho interchange to get on I-70 if anyone needs gas, potty stop, coffee, McDonalds, etc. This is a beautiful drive and one we hadn't been on before.
