Wondering how those winter tune ups affected your horse power? Never run your cobra on a chassis
dyno and are curious how that snake performs? Do you have a new car and you need to optimize
tuning?
The 3rd Annual MHCC Dyno Day will be held again this year at club member/club sponsor Lou
Rivera's shop near Highlands Ranch. You do not have to test your car or even have a cobra to
participate. It is fun to just hang around the shop and talk horsepower! We do need your
reservations, however, even if you just plan to have lunch so we are sure we have plenty of
food!
Lou's is equipped with a Dyno Jet (Model 224X) dyno which is capable of testing cars up to
1,000 hp. This model DynoJet enables a very rapid evaluation of your car's horsepower and
torque output while at the same time providing a real-time analysis of your exhaust for
fuel/oxygen ratios. Gone are the days of extended, high rev operations to get a thorough
engine evaluation. In as much time as it takes for your car to reach your specified maximum RPM
limit (usually 15 seconds or less), the DynoJet will provide horsepower, torque and gas emission
analyses. Extended operations at or near maximum RPMs are a thing of the past.
Here are the details:
- You will receive up to 3 pulls for a special event price of $65. Although you may choose how
you want your car tested, Lou suggests the following pulls. Pull #1. A 4 (or 5) speed pull
where your car is run through all of its gears from a dead stop. This will provide you an
analysis of your car's normal everyday driving performance. Pull #2. A power pull where you car
is run up to about 2,500 RPMs in its highest gear then the dyno run is triggered and the
engine is run up to the maximum RPM which YOU specify. This will provide you with your car's
top performance analysis. Pull #3, can be used, as necessary, to evaluate any tuning or carb
adjustments that you may wish to make between runs. Due to the need to accommodate everyone,
the schedule will only allow minor adjustments between runs.
- No leaded racing fuels please! It screws up the DynoJet sensors.
- Early callers can reserve a specified time slot; so call early. Each set of runs will take
approximately 1/2 hour per car. You should be there 1/2 hour before your time slot.
- Lou would like to test 10-12 cars. First priority will be given to MHCC members, but if
you have a buddy that would like to run his car, these will be run after all MHCC members have
run, as time will allow.
- We will break for lunch at about 12.00 then continue runs in the afternoon until everyone
has been tested. If your car requires extensive modifications based on early runs, it will be
unstrapped and you can make those modifications off of the dyno. You can get back on the dyno
for your subsequent runs, as time permits.
- Lou has considerable space in the vicinity of the shop to accommodate trailers if you wish
to/need to trailer your car to the test.
- Sorry all of you beer drinkers, MHCC and Lou's insurance will not allow alcohol to be consumed
as a part of Dyno Day. Soft drinks will be provided.
- A BBQ lunch will be provided. Dave White's BBQ pork will be back by popular demand. Some other
fixin's will also be provided. There is no charge for lunch and there will be plenty to
eat. The lunch is worth the trip even if you do not test!
- If you cannot make Dyno Day or if your car may require extended work, give Lou a call to make
arrangements for Dyno tuning on another date. He also works on all systems on your cobra if you
have other problems in getting your car ready for Spring. He has completed work on several
club member's cars already this year.
